Pardue-Okimoto Endorses Jovanka

After conferring over the recent primary election and their common interests for AD15 and California in the coming years, Jovanka Beckles and Rochelle Pardue-Okimoto today issued a joint statement.

"From my point of view," said Jovanka, "Rochelle Pardue-Okimoto continues to exemplify deep concern for the people of El Cerrito, where she is Vice Mayor, and for all of Assembly District 15 and the East Bay.

"With 17 years as a nurse, now at Alta Bates Summit Medical Center in Berkeley, Rochelle epitomizes the growing conviction among Americans that we must confront the crisis of health care, because affording care has become impossible in many cases.

"She and I support efforts to install single-payer health care as a right in California, and we will continue to work together to take care of the least among us. I am enormously grateful for her endorsement and continuing dedication to our constituents.”
Rochelle Pardue Okimoto emphasized that her endorsement is based on the conviction that because of Jovanka’s no-corporate-money pledge, her record of action in Richmond and devotion to the needs of the people of AD15 and the state of California, significantly including single-payer healthcare, she is confident that Jovanka is the person to send to Sacramento in the November 6 election.

"This election is bigger than any particular personality running for AD15. This election is outside-of-the-district-money from the one percent versus a people-powered movement to hold politicians accountable. Today Jovanka is the leader of that movement in AD15.

"I urge the people of AD15 to vote for Jovanka in the upcoming November election, and I’m glad that we’ll stay in close contact in the development and implementation of her Assembly agenda."
