Enviromentalists, Researchers, and Oakland Democratic Club Endorse Jovanka Beckles for AD15

Washington, D.C.-based environmental organization Food & Water Action announced its endorsement of Jovanka Beckles on Friday, citing her support for banning fracking and for regulating and reducing greenhouse gas pollution at its source. "We enthusiastically endorse Jovanka Beckles because Sacramento desperately needs legislators who are willing to take on the oil and gas lobby and fight for what is needed to protect California's water, air, and public health," said Adam Scow, California director of Food & Water Action. "Ms. Beckles has a proven record of standing up to the oil industry and in the midst of a growing climate crisis, California needs leaders who are ready to ban fracking and accelerate our transition to real renewable energy."

Jovanka expressed her appreciation for Food & Water Action's efforts to protect people and our environment and gratitude for their recognition. Food & Water Action, she observed, is "dedicated to engaging politicians and voters to fight for safe food and clean water." In response to the endorsement, she declared "I'm grateful that my record in Richmond as a champion of the environment has earned your support!"

Two additional organizations announced their support for Jovanka's campaign in the past week. UAW 5810, which represents more than 6,500 University of California Post-Doctoral Researchers endorsed Jovanka's candidacy, urging its members to take action to support her and statewide rent control Proposition 10.

Jovanka noted the challenges facing University and Laboratory workers in finding stable housing close to the institutions that employ them. "Our scientists are key to economic development and the betterment of humankind," she said. "They need stable homes and strong collective representation. I'm deeply grateful for the UAW's support as I stand with these important workers."

The Metropolitan Greater Oakland Democratic Club voted on October 5 to endorse Jovanka in her race to represent Assembly District 15. Their support followed the second of three meetings devoted to receiving presentations from advocates for a wide range of propositions and from competing candidates in the November general election, meeting at the Montclair Presbyterian Church.

A delighted Jovanka declared, "I had a great time meeting with the Metropolitan Greater Oakland Democratic Club last night to make my case for representing #AD15, and I'm deeply grateful to have earned their endorsement! Thanks to the MGO Dems Club and my colleague Dan Kalb for your support!"
