CTA Joins Other Educators Endorsing Jovanka Beckles for AD 15
"I remember my fifth grade teacher who addressed my personality of questioning everything, including authority, by placing me next to her desk the entire school year. I couldn’t get away with anything at that point. But she made me a better person because she believed in me. That’s one way I know that the power of teachers is fundamental and enduring!
"I am profoundly honored that the California Teachers Association, with its 325,000 members, has endorsed me to be their voice in Sacramento for Assembly District 15 when we vote November 6."
CTA President Eric C. Heins said, "This recommendation was based upon your stated educational positions. We in CTA look forward to working closely with you."
"I can’t thank you enough for putting your confidence in me! Teachers all across the country are standing up with great courage to protect our children.
"You, professionals in education, have placed your confidence in my campaign. I will always listen to you as we work together to improve our educational system. In 2018-2019, the state budget for education from kindergarten through higher education amounts to about $71 billion, or 37% of the total general fund budget of nearly $191 billion. Together we must make those resources work for all Californians!
"In addition to the CTA, my education partners include the California Federation of Teachers; the Faculty Association of California Community Colleges; United Teachers of Richmond; Engineers & Scientists of California, Local 20, IFPTE AFL/CIO/CLC; University Professional and Technical Employees, (UPTE-CWA) Local 9119; Berkeley Council of Classified Employees (BCCE), local 6192; Berkeley School Board member Judy Appel, former and current regional school board members Victor Aguilar, Jr., Ruscal Cayangyang, Shanhti Gonzales, Todd Groves, Marianne Kearney-Brown, Madeline Kronenberg, Mister Phillips, Alex Shantz; and Sheila Jordan, Alameda County Superintendent of Schools Emerita.
"I believe that education is key to saving our society and our planet!"
