August 24, 2017: Working with the Future of California

I work full time as a mental health professional for the Contra Costa County Health Department, when I am not serving the City of Richmond as Vice Mayor.

My primary focus is to work to ensure children in Contra Costa County have healthy academic and home environments and that their guardians are capable of providing the support developing children need.

My role as a Wrap Around Services Facilitator gives me a unique insight into the issues our young students and their caretakers are battling everyday. For almost two decades, I have seen and worked with children and their families in their homes, in their community, in the juvenile justice system, in the schools and in our clinic.

As the 2017 school year begins, too many students are affected by the vicious cycle of poverty and homelessness. No student can perform their best when they do not have secure housing, and guardians are unlikely to be able to monitor their student when they are forced to work multiple jobs.

I am proud to have worked to establish Just Cause Eviction protections and Rent Control in Richmond, so students and their families do not have to fear illegal evictions or unfair rent increases. All students in Contra Costa County and throughout California deserve the same peace of mind.

Children today face different challenges than when their parents went to school. In Sacramento, I will work to craft policies that take on and solve the challenges too many children face.

In Solidarity,

P.S. I am proud to announce that actor, activist and Bay Area Native Danny Glover has endorsed my campaign!

I am running for the California State Assembly to transform our state government to work for people, not profit. Join me and our movement to build a California that works for the many, not the few.
